Art Viva Needles
On a recent trip to Tasmania I came across some Spotty Top needles, and just had to buy them (as knitters do). It was a love affair that continues to this day, reinforced by the release of the Betty Jane breast cancer support range. Made from sustainably forested Tasmanian Oak and finished with natural oils, each needle is stamped with both metric and US sizes.
The Betty jane range is available in 3.75, 4, 4.5, 5, 5.5, 6, 8 and 10mm sizes or US 5-10, 11 and 15 and a variety of lengths including 20cm, 25cm, 28cm, 30cm and 38cm.
All needles are handmade in Australia. The spotty tops are available in red, hot pink, pale pink, orange, green, light green, blue and purple. A variety of DPN sizes are also available.
The Betty Jane range is priced from $9.60 to $22.90 depending on size, and is named after Louise's mother, who lost her battle with breast cancer in 2004. A percentage of profits from the Betty Jane range goes to the McGrath Foundation, with retailers pledging to also pass on a percentage of their profits to a breast cancer charity of their choice.
The needles are smooth, fun and support a good cause. I found the 10mm needles a touch too heavy but the 8mm and under were beautiful to knit with. Visit www.artviva.biz to purchase online or to find your nearest stockist or Ph. 03 62663843
